National cinema programs
Since 1994 the film festival “Molodist” has presented runs of the latest achievements of world cinema. For instance, within the framework of non-competition program there appeared sections, which represented films of various national film schools. National cinema programs are usually held with support of cultural institutions of the corresponding countries (Goethe institute, the British council, the French cultural center, the Italian institute of culture, Swiss cultural fund “Pro Helvetia” etc). As a rule, these programs, as well as the program “Festival of festivals”, envisage runs of films, which were participants and winners of international film forums, as well as national and international film festivals. Throughout the history of its existence, this program has presented the national cinema of various European countries. 1994 - the retrospective show of films of National school of cinema and TV of Great Britain. 1996 – new wave of Czech cinema of the 60-ies, retrospective show of Bulgarian animation and retrospective show of British animation. In 1997 the non-competition program included runs of Swedish and Swiss cinema. Swiss documental films and Brazil short films were shows within non-competition program in 1999. In 2002 there was Swedish panorama. Since 2003, the programs of French and German cinema, represented in sections “German boulevard” and “French cinema today”, have become traditional. In cooperation with international film festival “Kinotavr”, “Molodist” presents runs of the latest achievements of Russian cinema. German boulevardThe program “German boulevard” has already become a tradition for film festival “Molodist”. Since 2003 this program is annually included into the non-competition section of the festival. Film runs within the program are carried out with support of Goethe institute. Among films, represented in this program, as well in the program “Festival of festivals”, many works are participants and winners of outstanding world film festivals. In 2004 this program included Fatih Akin’s film “Head-On”, which was a great success and received several film awards, among which are “Golden bear” of Berlin film festival. 2005 – “Don’t Come Knocking”, the film of the legendary film director Wim Wenders, the winner of the most prestigious world film awards, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This film won the prize for the best camera work The same year witnessed the run of the film “Lost and Found – six glances at a generation”, in which six East-European film makers presented their variations on the theme of modernity and changes. This film opened the 35th international film forum on IFF in Berlin (2005). In 2006 such films as Moris Mueller’s “Four windows” (shown at numerous international film festivals) and Angelina Maccarone’s “Hounded” (which received a Golden leopard on Locarno festival).
French cinema todayEvery year the non-competition program “French cinema today” attracts a great number of viewers. This program, as well as the section “German boulevard”, exists in “Molodist” since 2003. Film runs within the programs are carried out with support of the French cultural center. The program features novelties of French cinema, which have nevertheless already won recognition. Throughout the existence of the program, the Ukrainian viewers had a chance to watch the following films. 2003 - film “Swimming Pool” by Francois Ozon, which was shown at numerous film festivals and won awards at IFF in Bangkok and the prize of the European film academy, and was nominated for the best film of the Cannes film festival. 2005 – the film “Hidden” by Michael Haneke, which won numerous awards at the most prestigious world festivals, among which are the awards of Cannes film festival (best director, FIPRESCI prize and the prize of the ecumenical jury), European film academy and many others. The same year witnessed the run of the film “Les Choristes” by Christophe Barratier, which won numerous awards, among which is the award of the European film academy, Oscar. 2006 – run of the film “The Untouchable” by Benoit Jacquot, which was included into competition program of Venice film festival; the film “Un Couple Parfait" by Noburiho Suwa, which won several awards at IFF in Locarno; the film “Crustaces et Coquillages” by Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau, which was shown at numerous film festivals and won the award in Berlin film festival in the category “panorama”. New Russian cinemaThe section “New Russian cinema” has already existed in the non-competition programs of the festival for several years already. The film runs under this program are carried out with the support of the Russian film festival “Kinotavr”. Until 2002, the novelties of the Russian cinema were shown within the program “East-European panorama”.
