Molodist Kyiv international film festival
30 May 2021

The 50th Molodist has opened!

The 50th-anniversary Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival was opened at an official ceremony on May 29 at the open-air cinema under the People's Friendship Arch.

The guests of the Ceremony saw the highlights of the half-century old  Molodist and got to know the programs and the jury of the anniversary festival. During the opening performance by the group G-ART and rapper Alina Pash were held.

The opening ceremony was hosted by actor Taras Tsymbaliuk and TV presenter Breakfast with 1+1 Liudmila Barbir. They talked about the first years of Molodist's existence, famous Ukrainian and foreign directors, whose debut works took part in the festival's competition. Among them are Danny Boyle and Tom Tykwer, François Ozon, Gaspar Noé, Sergei Loznitsa and, of course, Ivan Mykolaichuk. It was his "Babylon XX" that won Best Film at Molodist in 1979 and was shown as the opening film of this year's festival.

The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko presented the honorary Scythian Deer to Yurii Harmash, the cameraman of the film Babylon XX, for his contribution to the development of Ukrainian cinema. The day before, on May 28, the President of Ukraine awarded the art director of Molodist, Andriy Khalpakhchi, the title Merited Artist of Ukraine. Film critic Oleksandr Shpyliuk, general producer of special projects of the StarLight Media holding Mykhailo Pavlov and researcher Liudmyla Novikova were also awarded for significant contribution to the development of the film festival and significant creative achievements.

At the 50th Molodist, viewers will be able to watch about 200 films from 21 programs — among them full-length, short and student sections of the International Competition, National Competition, the first Documentary Competition in the history of the festival, LGBTQI+ Sunny Bunny films, and the Teen Screen children's film competition. The renewed and intensified Molodist becomes a real platform for the development of Ukrainian cinema with a new industry section, where three pitching projects will be held, and more than 25 leading foreign and Ukrainian specialists.

The 50th anniversary Molodist Kyiv Film International Festival takes place from May 29 to June 6 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the Kyiv City State Administration.
