49th Molodist IFF announces dates, venues and opening film
This year, the 49th Molodist International Film Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary and will take place from August 22 to 30, 2020. The event will combine physical venues with the additional involvement of its own online platform.
The main locations of the film festival will be the Zhovten cinema, the new festival center with screenings of competition and non-competition programs, including Ukrainian premieres; the Cinema House, a venue for festival screenings and a series of master classes as part of Talent Workshop; and a specially designed open-air cinema under the ’Peoples’ Friendship Arch’, which will host the Opening and Award Ceremonies of the festival, the Molodist Teen Screen program of children's films, Ukrainian premieres and special events.
The festival will open with "The Forgotten" directed by Daria Onishchenko, a film co-produced by Ukraine and Switzerland. Its Ukrainian premiere will take place on August 22, during the Opening Ceremony of the 49th Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival.
About the film:
"The Forgotten" is a Ukraine-Switzerland coproduction. The film won its first prize as a work-in-progress at the Odesa International Film Festival in 2019, a Ukrainian Institute award for a film with highest international potential.
One of the roles in the film is performed by prominent Ukrainian artist and sculptor Maria Kulikovska, whose performance of destroying her own sculptures recreates the true event that happened at the Izolyatsia art centre in Donetsk after its seizing by separatists in 2014.
