Second SUNNY BUNNY announces dates, releases festival passes
Founded by the organizers of the Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist, the queer film festival SUNNY BUNNY has announced the dates for the next edition in 2024. The event will take place on April 19 – 26 in the Zhovten cinema and will demonstrate the diversity of contemporary LGBTQIA+ cinema. Bohdan Zhuk is the Head of the festival, with the artistic director of KIFF Molodist, Andriy Khalpakhchi is its honorary president.
The first festival took place in the summer of 2023. Curator Bohdan Zhuk noted that events focused on human rights are critically important during the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine.
In 2024, the SUNNY BUNNY program will again consist of the main competition of feature fiction films, the program of debut films New Colors, documentary films, and children's films Queerby. A wide spectrum of national and international short films will be shown, and for the first time, an international competition for short queer films will be held.
The SUNNY BUNNY film festival emerged from the eponymous program at the Molodist KIFF, introduced in 2001. The Molodist KIFF award for the best LGBTQ+ film became one of the oldest in the world among non-specialized film festivals. This was the second major international film festival after the Berlinale to introduce a special award for LGBTQ+ films and included it as a separate program.
During the first SUNNY BUNNY Film Festival this year, over 60 feature and short films from around the world were shown. In February 2023, Molodist KIFF team received the honorable Teddy Award at Berlinale for the SUNNY BUNNY program and the promotion of LGBTQ+ cinema, accepted on stage by General Director of Molodist Andriy Khalpakhchi and programmer Bohdan Zhuk.
