Molodist has presented a new National Feature Competition program in this year’s FILMFEST HAMBURG

For the third time, Hamburg Film Festival has hosted screenings of the "Molodist" festival program.

As noted by the festival's program director Kathrin Kolschte and programmer Dario Becker, they are happy to welcome "Molodist", yet feel deeply bitter that this is happening amid a full-scale invasion. The festival's head director Andriy Khalpakhchi shared with the audience that the latest feature films representing the diversity of modern Ukrainian cinema have been selected specifically for the national competition in Hamburg.

The opening film of the national feature competition of "Molodist" was Denis Tarasov's debut film “DIAGNOSIS: DISSENT” which for the first time in the history of Ukrainian cinema addresses the topic of punitive psychiatry in the former Soviet Union countries. The main roles in the film were played by Kostyantyn Temlyak, Irma Vitovska, and Vitaliy Saliy.

During his speech, the director of the feature, Denys Tarasov paid his respect to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for protection and enabling to create and showcase films even at the times of war. Significantly, the opening of the program coincided with the Day of Defenders and Defenderesses of Ukraine.

Another film was presented on the first day of the National Competition program debut.  The psychological drama “THE GLASS HOUSE” directed by Taras Dron was shot on film  and features Iryna Ostrovska in the leading role. During the discussion with the audience, Iryna Ostrovska mentioned that although the film was shot before the full-scale invasion, the theme of losing a loved one has, unfortunately, become relevant for many Ukrainians.

The jury for the National feature film Competition includes
-producer Natalia Libet,
- director and producer Anastasia Bukovska,
- film expert Dennis Rukh.
The winner of the competition will receive the "Scythian Deer" statuette, made by the jewelry company KIMBERLI, along with $2,000 from the International Institute of Depth Psychology.

The National feature film Competition also includes:

  • “THE EDITORIAL OFFICE” directed by Roman Bondarchuk
  • "GRAY BEES" directed by Dmytro Moiseiev
  • "STEPNE" directed by Maryna Vrada
  • "OXYGEN STATION" directed by Ivan Tymchenko

The closing film of "Molodist" at FILMFEST HAMBURG will be the documentary "FRAGMENTS OF ICE" by Maria Stoyanova.

The winner will be announced on the 4th of October.
