Pigeons Are Dying, When The City Is On Fire
Born in Chania in '94, Stavros Markoulakis graduated from the School of Communication and Media of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed the postgraduate program "Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image" at the University of Amsterdam, and he is a Locarno Industry Academy (2021) and Sarajevo Talents Alumnus (2023). In recent years he has worked in the Programming Department of several film festivals, and continues as Q&A Coordinator at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), and Film Programmer at Leiden Shorts and Anafi FF. His first short, the diploma film “Madonna f64.0” (2020) won the first “Drama Queer” award at the 43rd Drama International Short Film Festival and followed a worldwide festival circuit. His sophomore film, "Pigeons are dying, when the city is on fire” premiered in Sarajevo Film Festival (2023).
