Chainsaws Were Singing
He began making short films in high school with friends and attended the Baltic Film and Media School for a while. He dropped out in 2012 to finish his short film CURIOSITY KILLS in which a radioactive rat attacks an unsuspecting family. The project was successful among international genre film festivals and so he and creative partner Jan Andresson went rogue, inspired by Robert Rodriguez’s book “Rebel Without a Crew” and started making short films outside of film school. That led to Maran’s debut feature film CHAINSAWS WERE SINGING, a crazy genre epic that was shot guerilla-style in 2013. The film spent a whopping 10 years in postproduction due to its genre rich content and lack of funding and was finally finished in 2024. It premiered at the Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival in April 2024.
